Six Week Progress Report

Six weeks now. Six bone pounding, heart pumping, sweat generating weeks of P90X has officially past. The half way point is here.
I have lost 2 pounds.
The end.
No, I am not quitting. And, yes, I know that muscle weighs more than fat. But, c’mon...2 lousy pounds? Really.
I do see changes in the shape of my body. More shape, less lumpiness; this is a good thing. But ***sigh*** was hoping for a little more progress than this.
It has taken many years to get into this state, however, so I suppose that I cannot expect a major 6 week transformation.
Still, 2....pitiful....pounds.

A Little Perplexed, Here!

Week five of this booty-bustin' workout is here! We have yet to miss a day (much to my surprise, honestly). Although I do see muscle and definition in places that were sans muscle and definition, I have officially lost a whopping 2 POUNDS!!! Hello? What is up with that? I am eating good, I am sweating like Santa Claus in the tropics...yet, I have only lost 2 pounds? Yes, it is a bit discouraging.

My husband, on the other hand, has lost about 13 pounds. Which is awesome and he is feeling great. He says it is because he has more to lose...which may be true...but two pounds??? After 5 weeks of P90X and 4 months of P90 prior to that?

Something is not right!

Press On!

I haven't slept late in eons. So, this morning I told my hubby to go on without me, I wanted to sleep, but I would workout later. I really had good intentions!

And sleep, I did! It was marvelous. Then I went out after breakfast to work on my future garden (major Bermuda grass issues...Grrr! Must block the nuisance at all cost!). Three and a half hours later, after some major sweating in the Texas heat, I wasn't so sure about needing to workout! Isn't four hours (hey, let's round it up, shall we?) of sweating sufficient.

Well, a few weeks ago, it would have been! But, after regrouping, I decided to bite the bullet and do the Kenpo-X after all. I surprised myself! I'll admit that I stopped when it got to the "easy" part; lots of arm blocks in a squat stance. I do think that "four" hours of lifting dirt and rocks and bags of corn meal counted for something!

Now, off to the shower with a clear conscience! Well, I do take back all that rounding up business.  Yes, three and a half hours, it was...now my conscience is clear. :)

Core Work...Ouch!

Today was our first Core Synergistic day. I am so wiped out; it was tough. My husband and I can see that this is one that would be good to do for the rest of our lives, it engages so many key parts of your body. We weren't very fluid or proficient at it today...but all that will change as we keep pressing on!

Onward P90X Soldier!

Almost done with our third week of P90X! I am so surprised at how much I am enjoying it. I do have those "James" moments, where I am tossed about on waves of indecision...should I get up and do this? Should I go back to sleep? Do I have to do this? Can I do it later? Pretty much my mental conversation every morning. However, once I get out there and get going, I am feeling great (in a sweaty, exhausted sort of way, that I have never appreciated before), and I am thankful I got up and showed up!

I can't say enough about working out with the one you love. If it is at all possible, work out together! The accountability factor cannot be underestimated. It is also nice to get in shape together, considering you probably got soft and flabby together too!

Next week will be the "off" week, where we have a different line up of exercises. Looks really tough, especially the Core Synergistics video! But, I am looking forward to seeing results. I don't know why I wasn't seeing them when I did P90, but I am glad things are starting to happen now! The mental transformation is especially a blessing.

Forging Ahead. Sometimes Just Plodding.

We are still sweating along. Tomorrow will be the first day of week 3! I am actually surprised at how much I am able to do and that I can keep up with 95% of it! Not that I am raring to go every morning. In fact, if it wasn't for my sweet husbands urging, I may have talked myself out of it a couple of times. I am so glad to have the accountability of working with him! If you are thinking of a serious exercise program, get a partner and hold each other accountable!

We still haven't taken those pictures yet! We better do it soon...my belly is finally shrinking and I can see my husbands disappearing as well!

Today's thought: Sweat= getting rid of the bad DNA! The "lumpy" stuff!

Living to Tell...

I am a bit delayed in keeping this blog abreast of our P90X progress...but I have officially made it three days into my SECOND week of P90X, and I have lived to tell about it! It is not nearly as torturous as I feared, praise God! I believe that is because we were in pretty good shape (at least internally) from our P90 prior to setting out on the "X" factor.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I am good for nothing for awhile when we are done, and I am not up to the speed of those on the video 100%, but I am making it without the use of CPR or barf-bag. This is meaningful. I actually DO see some evidence of my body changing, which is awesome so soon. My husband and I keep saying we better take those "before" pictures, yet we keep forgetting! I still have a long ways to go so it should be a pretty good "before" snapshot of where I started, but a month or so ago would have been better.

There's also a whole new depth of sweating. Being out in our shed in a record hot June (near 100) doesn't do anything but help us sweat it out. We are out pretty early in the morning, however, but it is still stifling and muggy, about 80 degrees at least. Today I had the interesting experience of sweat dripping into my ear...that was a new one (not my favorite!). Where my husband is working it looks as if it has been raining by the end of the workout. Let's just say we aren't real cuddly at that point.

Yes, so far so good. I really like the variety, which makes it easier to get up and move. When you just alternate two videos, like we did with the P90, it becomes tedious, anticipating each joke and treading certain moves you hate.

The hardest day of the first seven, for me, was the yoga. First of all, who decided an hour and a half of this stuff was a good idea? Do the folks at Beachbody not realize we have a life? Anyway, as a flexible person and ballerina, I think I dove in with too much enthusiasm. As the day wore on, I felt worse and worse. Almost like I was ill with something. I was so exhausted. My husband had the same experience on the day we did lots of legs, he is a former football player and knew a lot of the moves that we did...and just about wasted himself doing so.

Moral of the story? Don't get cocky! Pace yourself so you can see the rest of your day through with some measure of coherency.

Well, time to take a shower. I was using my after-plyometric cool down to sit and type. By the way, that is one tough workout! I have never had a certain problem that a few of my friends have complained about...but can you say "Keegal"? Hello! A few of those exercises put strain in some...um...awkward places! (Not sure if I spelled that right!).

OK, time to rock on...over and out!
